The soft drink industry is estimated to be worth a huge $660 billion by 2028, with 1.9 billion servings of Coca-Cola’s range of drinks served each day worldwide.

We’ve analysed search volume data of the most popular soft drinks to understand what soft drink is the most popular worldwide.

The Most Popular Soft Drink in the World

Coca-Cola is the most popular soft drink, with 75% of countries searching for the beverage the most. The combined average monthly searches across all countries totalled 1,142,930, dominating the soft drink market.

Pepsi is the second most popular soft drink, with 12% of countries searching for the drink the most. Countries that searched for Pepsi the most include India (31,000), Vietnam (19,000), Egypt (8,600) and Thailand (5,300).

 

The UK’s Favourite Soft Drink

The UK’s favourite drink is Coca-Cola, with combined monthly searches of 69,900.

Irn-Bru follows as the second most popular drink in the UK, with 43,500 average monthly searches for the Scottish beverage. Pepsi follows in third, with 31,520 average monthly searches.

However, breaking down each country within the United Kingdom, the results are slightly different. England, Wales and Northern Ireland’s most popular drink is Coca-Cola with 60,500, 2,400 and 1,600 average monthly searches, respectively. Scotland’s favourite drink is Irn-Bru, with 14,800 average monthly searches.

What is Europe’s Most Searched-For Drink?

Overall, Coca-Cola is Europe’s favourite carbonated beverage, with a huge 260,790 average monthly searches. All but seven countries in Europe search for Coca-Cola the most – with Slovenia, Belarus, Denmark, Malta, Latvia, Czech Republic and Slovakia searching for other drinks the most.

Slovenia’s favourite drink is Cockta, a rosehip, lemon and orange-flavoured drink. Belarus’ favourite is Fanta, whilst Denmark prefers Faxe Kondi with 10,000 average monthly searches. Malta’s most searched-for drink is Kinnie, and Latvia’s favourite drink is Klondaika with a huge 31,000 monthly searches. Finally, the Czech Republic and Slovakia’s most searched-for drink, with 7,600 and 3,400 monthly searches respectively, is Kofola, the main rival for Coca-Cola and Pepsi in the two countries.

What is the U.S.’s Favourite Drink?

Overall, the U.S.’s favourite drink is Coca-Cola, with 336,880 average monthly searches combined for the carbonated drink. 38 of the 50 states searched for Coca-Cola the most, with California being the top searcher with a staggering 40,500 monthly searches for the drink alone.

11 of the states prefer Dr Pepper, with a combined total of 249,230 searches. Texas is the biggest fan of the beverage, searching on average 40,500 times per month. Arizona (6,600), Oklahoma (4,400), Kentucky (3,600) and Kansas (2,900) complete the top 5 states preferring Dr Pepper.

Wyoming is the only state that searched for Pepsi the most, with an average of 480 searches per month for the Coca-Cola rival.

Methodology

The team used Ahrefs Keyword Explorer to determine which were the most popular soft drinks in each country around the world. For the United Kingdom and the United States, Google Keyword Planner was used to get individual country/state data.
