New data has revealed which UK cities are home to restaurants with the highest percentage of 5-star food hygiene ratings. The research from Alliance Online, one of the UK’s leading catering suppliers, aimed to find where in the UK is home to the restaurants with the best, and worst, hygiene ratings. Researchers analysed data from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) for 15 of the UK’s biggest towns and cities, looking at where had the highest percentage of 5-star hygiene ratings.
Alliance Online has released these findings to make Brits aware of food hygiene ratings of restaurants across UK cities. To ensure restaurants meet the requirements of the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Alliance Online supplies a range of cleaning supplies and signage.
So Which cities are home to the finest restaurants in the UK?
Nottingham came out on top, with 573 restaurants in the city analysed. 87.43% were classified as ‘very good’ in terms of cleanliness. Bournemouth came in second, with 86.93% of restaurants having a 5-star rating, closely followed by Sunderland, with 83.33%. The top 3 spanning all parts of England is a strong demonstration that good food can be found anywhere and is a positive sign for the catering industry. For restaurants to meet the 5-star rating requirement, they must make sure they maintain cleaning routines, strict food handling practices, up-to-date staff training, effective waste management, and provide food hygiene posters and signage.
Which city outside of England has the best food hygiene ratings?
From our findings the best restaurant when it comes to food hygiene ratings outside of England would be Cardiff in Wales with 82.94% of restaurants boasting a 5-star establishment. Second in the list would be Belfast coming in at a respectable 11th place in our study with 74.76% of restaurants achieving 5-star results.
Commenting on the findings, Rachael Kiss at Alliance Online said:
“It is critically important for restaurants to adhere to the cleanliness requirements set by the FSA. Maintaining high standards of hygiene is not just about compliance, but it’s about ensuring the safety and well-being of customers, as there is potential for serious health risks and foodborne illnesses if cleanliness isn’t seen as a priority.”
Summary
Obviously, our findings aren’t a detailed analysis of each individual restaurant in these cities and should be taken as an overview of the hygiene ratings for the establishments across each city. We would like to remind caterers across the UK to keep health and safety as a priority to keep customers and staff safe.
