Steelite offer a lifetime edge-chip warranty on all Performance and Distinction products which have been manufactured in their UK factory. This guarantee gives customers the peace of mind that their purchases will match the commercial requirements of an industrial range of crockery. Furthermore, all Performance and Distinction products are made using their Alumina Vitrified clay body, with high-alumina content to ensure strength, and fully vitrified to reduce porosity, stopping bacterial ingress for superior hygiene standards.
Environmental Commitment
Steelite as a company strive to continually find and implement green initiatives to help reduce wastage of raw materials, save energy and water, and decrease their carbon footprint. The company has been certified to the ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Standard and is also a member of The Green Organisation which rewards and promotes environmental best practices across the world, as well as on a local level across the Staffordshire business network. In 2019 they were awarded the Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice.
Lamella Machine & Centrifuge System
Due to their dedication to environmental betterment, in 2007 Steelite installed a Lamella system for recycling clay waste. Since it’s activation in July 2007 the Lamella machine has recycled 350 metric tonnes of clay body each year which equates to:
- 350 tonnes of clay which doesn’t need to be quarried – reducing the impact on national landscapes and the energy required to obtain it
- 350 tonnes per year which no longer requires transporting
- 350 tonnes of waste material that has been reused and saved from going to landfill thus reducing Steelite’s impact on landfill
Additionally, the company also employs a centrifuge system which works by separating glaze from wastewater by spinning it at very high speeds. A benefit of this method is it provides cleaner wastewater, opposed to a cloudy solution. The clean water is then used for spindle wash off in the second set of centrifuges opposed to sending it down the drain, whilst the glaze is put back into manufacturing circulation. This method saves roughly 100 tonnes of glaze per year and around 20 cubic metres of water a day.

Aspen

The new Aurora range is the very latest innovation from Steelite International. Aurora uses reactive glazes in combination to achieve stunning colour and contrast effects. An artisan approach is used in decorating each piece of Aurora by hand. This accentuates the individuality and craftsmanship required in its creation and gives each piece personality. Two reactive glazes are used on each item, either to create contrast or to achieve a more sophisticated tonal look. In either case, the effect is one of richness and vibrancy, enhancing the creativity associated with many cuisine types.
Craft
The Craft range has grown to encompass several colours over the years. It was conceived from the start to be sympathetic with long-term trends including heritage, authenticity, hand craftsmanship, individuality, and eclecticism and these are as important now as they were back then.
