The days are starting to get shorter and the temperature is starting to fall. As the Autumn chills seep in and the Winter creeps closer, customers all over will be looking for a coffee shop safe haven during their days out shopping. You may have that one favourite or might feel like trying them all but whatever coffee is taking your fancy, here’s the lingo shortcuts you never knew you had:
Americano: The standard black coffee, just more intense. Espresso with hot water.
Breve: A lighter version of a Latte, using steamed half cream instead of milk.
Caf au Lait: Steamed milk added into strong drip brewed or French pressed coffee.
Con Panna: An espresso with a delightful bit of whipped cream squirted on top.
Cappuccino: Milk, both frothed and steamed with espresso.
Double: Double the espresso, typically a second shot, in whatever drink you’re ordering.
Dry: For example, a cappuccino with only frothed milk over the top. No steamed milk included.
Espresso: Black coffee at a higher concentration. Typically served in shot-sizes on it’s own or put directly into another ordered beverage.
Haf Caf: 50-50 caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee mixed together.
Latte: One shot of espresso with steamed milk.
Macchiato: A large espresso poured over a small amount of milk.
Mocha: Tastes like a coffee version of a hot chocolate. Made up of espresso, steamed milk and chocolate powder.
Skinny: Any drink made with non-fat milk.
Solo: Any drink that’s made with a single shot of espresso.
Triple: Three espresso shots served into another drink.
Whip: Add whipped cream on top.
White Coffee: Hot or cold milk being added to a black coffee.
With Legs: Being made in a disposable take-out cup.
