Supplier Spotlight: Evans Vanodine
At Alliance Online we have over 23 years of trading experience and during this time we have forged many long-standing relationships with suppliers across all areas of the hospitality purchasing sectors. One of our largest and highest selling products sectors is cleaning, namely cleaning chemicals. In this article we are going to take the opportunity to introduce one of our main trusted chemicals suppliers: Evans Vanodine.
Evans Vanodine has been developing and manufacturing cleaning and hygiene products for over 100 years. Established in 1919, by William Charles Evans, the business initially began producing spraying essences for cinemas, before branching out into manufacturing disinfectants, liquid soaps and various types of powders. Over the past 100 years, the company’s products have not only been used by the British Team at the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games, but also used to protect the public, when moon dust went on show in Manchester, brought back from the 1969 moon landing.
Today, their products cover an extensive range of applications for the industrial, janitorial, food process and animal health sectors. They help kill pathogenic diseases in hospitals and keep farms where our food comes from and the restaurants that serve it, safe and hygienic. They also help to make sure schools are germ-free and that kids know the importance of hand washing. The company, which is still owned and run by the Evans family, currently exports to over 85 countries worldwide and has licensed manufacturing units overseas.
An integral component of the company has always been chemical research and development, since Evans founder William and his son Derek, their late chairman, both set out as chemists. Their vision was for Evans to develop its own products, backed by science, rather than rely on others to determine the quality of goods. This is a value the company still holds true today, with all the in-house laboratories having been rebuilt and expanded, as part of the new build extension to mark our centenary year. Evans has achieved certification by the British Standards Institution under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, ensuring quality and consistency at every stage of production. The UKAS accredited Microbiology laboratory is approved to test disinfectants against European Standard test methods, guaranteeing products are fit for purpose and bactericidal claims are substantiated. Evans also holds Planet Mark certification, highlighting their commitment to sustainability and reducing their impact on the environment, and their hand care products are certified by The Vegan Society.
Evans Vanodine is the proud recipient of two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, in the category of International Trade, recognised as Britain’s most coveted prize for business success, as well as being an Export Champion for the Northwest. They have also won several BIBAs (Be Inspired Business Award, covering Lancashire) for manufacturing, export and business of the year categories. Winning these awards is a testament to the efforts of the entire company to be the best in their field.
Evans believe that manufacturing and supplying products is only one part of their business and their commitment to their customers does not stop once products are delivered. The experience of their in-house microbiologists and chemists, and their years of knowledge of working in the industry, is always at the disposal of customers. Greentick Range
At Evans Vanodine, they have developed an innovative system for classifying each of our products according to their overall environmental impact. Their system scores products based on eight different criteria. The criteria selected are used to create a holistic life cycle view of the processes and product and also align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The eight criteria are:
- Impact of Raw Materials
- Impact of Product in Use
- Impact of Packaging Used
- Environmental Hazard Class
- pH Balance of Product
- Impact of Energy Used
- Impact of Transportation
- Water Used to Manufacture
Every product in the Evans range is analysed using this GreenTick system. The lower the overall product score, the lower the impact on the environment. Products which achieve a low impact rating are identified with a GreenTick logo on the label.
Our Relationship with Evans Vanodine
Evans have been a supplier to Alliance since 2010 and during this period they have become a key trusted supplier of ours with a product range we’d highly recommend. As previously mentioned, Evans has their Greentick range which can be found here.
Evans also have a fantastic, concentrated offering called their e:dose range. The range delivers products easily and economically in a simple, colour-coordinated system that covers all significant sections of the daily cleaning schedule. These super concentrate cleaning products have been formulated by selecting highly effective ingredients and combining them with clean, fresh perfumes to provide exceptional cleaning performance with a refreshing fragrance. The range also includes two unperfumed products for areas where fragrance is not appropriate. The e:dose range is available in 1 litre dosing bottles and 5 litre bottles for use in the e:dose wall mounted dispensing system or for refilling the dosing bottles.
