Top 100 British Pubs

The Punch Bowl Pub in Cumbria

The Punch Bowl Pub in Cumbria

Eat Out magazine, in association with Bisto, has recently published it’s list of the top 100 pubs in Britain. All of the pubs in the list operate in the UK and have gained recognition for their food. The accolades have been made by food guides, trade publications, food promotion bodies and regional & national newspapers.

Points were allocated for every award made to a pub for it’s food over the past year, with weighing given to the generally accepted more prestigious awards and to national over regional gongs. Other details were also considered such as each pubs website, where they have one, scanning it’s menus and noting review from press and customers.

Congratulations to The Punchbowl pub in Cumbria who scooped the top prize in 2009

We must remember that even though pub closures are running at over 30 a month, sales of pub food are continuing to rise. People may be counting the pennies a little more carefully, but they’re not abandoning the eating out habit. Instead they’re looking for good food and good value available in pubs.

See the April issue of Eat Out magazine for the full list of the nation’s best pubs.

I thought this would be a good place to mention that The Good Pub Guide is inviting UK licensees to view their listing on http://www.thegoodpubguide.co.uk and add their own description, highlighting best features and facilities. The free service ensures that registered pubs can have a strong presence on this new site, aiming to provide a first port of call and comprehensive search facility for the pub-goer and diner.
