In an effort to provide a more informative resource for our visitors (and offer a bit of a break from the usual product posts!) – we have decided to run a monthly feature picking out some of the latest news and happenings in the catering industry. Feel free to comment on the articles below or leave details of any news we may have missed.
Your industry needs you!
Hospitality Action – the industry charity is calling for all hospitality workers and caterer’s to put the ‘fun’ into fundraising and become action heroes for one week only from 18-24 May.
In true action hero style, participants are invited to wear their pants over their trousers like Superman to raise money. Organisers say the action doesn’t have to stop at pants – industry workers might want to set up a charity football match, put their singing talents to the test with a karaoke evening, or run a hoolahoop contest.
Anyone wanting to get involved is being encouraged to visit the website www.hospitalityaction.org.uk
Best in the North
Ramsons in Ramsbottom was voted Best Restaurant in the fourth Northern Hospitality Awards held at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate. Among the nine other categories the Best Chef award went to Marc Wilkinson, of Fraiche in the Wirral.
Call for better service
Poor service is the biggest bugbear of UK diners, closely followed by bad food and drink and thirdly price.
This has been revealed in research by Qype, Europe’s largest site for user generated reviews.
The research highlights that even as the grip of the credit crunch tightens, cost doesn’t come top of the list for customers, who are still willing to pay for an evening out to a restaurant provided they are getting the quality of food and service they expect.
Vegetarian Week
The 17th National Vegetarian Week takes place from May 18th. With over 7% of the UK population now vegetarian/vegan and a further 12% eating less than one meat-based meal a week it is said to be a good time for retailers to increase their offerings and take advantage of this booming £2.2 billion market.
