Another monthly feature, here we take a look at some of the latest catering news from the hospitality and food service industry.

What attracts diners?

Warm customer service and value for money are the two most important criteria for diners when recommending a restaurant, according to research by the National Skills Academy for Hospitality.

Over six months the Academy took a temperature check of customer service. Robust mystery shopper research tested customer service in 700 hotels, restaurants, pubs and cafes nationally. The benchmarks have now been set and in 2010 “business that will prosper are those excelling in customer service and delivering perceived value, exceeding the expectations of even the most discerning of guests.”

Caterers urged to help flood victims

A leading supplier of ethically-sourced foodservice products is appealing to the catering industry to help following devastating floods in a key coffee growing area of Peru.

Peros, which sources Fairtrade coffee and organic coffee for its Cafedirect brand from growers in the Cusco region of Peru, is urging caterers to consider a cash donation to help the relief work in the area.
