Chafing Dish

Posted by Rachael in Catering Equipment on 5 November 09

A chafing dish is a piece of catering equipment that functions as a warming tray and can also be used for very slow cooking. Originally heated with charcoal in a brazier the term ‘chafing’ comes from the old French word chauffer, “to make warm”. These days a heating device like a gel stove or candle sit below a pan that rests on a platform and heats the dish.

Chafing dishes are usually found on buffet tables (or even the dining table) as a way to keep food warm prior and during a meal. When using chafing dishes it is important to constantly monitor the food temperature. Having the temperature too high can overcook the food and also wastes energy. Having a temperature too low is dangerous as food can become contaminated.

We offer a range of chafing dishes here on Alliance Online – designed with gastronorm sizing for greater flexibility in presenting different types of food. You can chose between electric dishes with rolling tops made from stainless steel or chafing fuel powered dishes in oval or rectangular designs.

We currently have a promotion on our economy chafing dish – available to buy now for just £24.98 (+VAT)

  • Hi Sharma

You should be getting a catalogue in the post in the next few days. We have a selection of chafing dishes on page 37 but the website has a wider range and all our latest prices.

Page 109 has some heated and refrigerated display units but, again, see the website for a much larger range of kitchen equipment.
